The project calls for the construction of a new middle school facility housing three (3) new schools and all related site work and outdoor facilities. The site includes approximately 30 acres of school land along Reuben Drive in Huntsville, AL. Early site improvements are underway including demolition and removal of a portion of the existing school and tree clearing, required erosion control and site fencing. The building scope includes a partial two-story academic building including administration areas, classrooms, media center, E-gaming arena, gymnasium and kitchen/cafeteria. The primary structural system for the facility is steel frame structure with infill materials ranging from masonry, stud walls, curtain wall, and storefront glazing. The scope includes a storm shelter. The new school will be approximately 160,000 square feet distributed throughout the building, which will serve an enrollment capacity of roughly 900 students. In addition to the core curriculum spaces, there are multiple collaborative spaces, E-gaming warm up space, flex labs, a dedicated community space, a full music and arts suite, a competition gymnasium, an E-gaming Arena, and a cafeteria and commercial kitchen. All the spaces in the school will be served by both wired and wireless technology as well as the most up to date mechanical and electrical systems. Site work includes several outdoor playgrounds and learning spaces as well as parking lot construction and various plantings and landscaping.
